Sure your network is important.

But what happens when you help build networks for others?

When I was building my first business, I was a one-man show. I had technical skills and I was a hard worker (read: desperation), but I lacked the network to make the most of my model.

Enter the legendary superconnectors.

There are people out there, who we'll call superconnectors, who helped me put the pieces together with the right people.

All without asking for anything in return. I love these people. They often get gifted enormous rewards miraculously over time for their connecting power.

Read: helping others succeed.

As I grew (professionally and financially), it was time to return the favor. How does one pull it off?

I had to connect people in ways that would benefit both sides. I had to bring people together that would help each other grow. This takes a little (not a lot) of mental sweat.

The first step was to build a list of people I admired and respected. These were people that had proven themselves in their field. They could offer advice and insights that would help me grow my business.

The second step was to reach out to these people and start cultivating relationships. I sent emails and made phone calls and sent a lot more texts.

The third step was to leverage my existing network. This is where the magic happens. By connecting the right people together, I created new opportunities and value out of thin air.

For example, one of my contacts was an artist who was looking for an investor to fund his project. Through my network, I connected him with an investor who believed in the project and wanted to buy into it. As a result, both the investor and the artist got what they wanted out of the deal, and I got a commission for bringing them together (that I didn't ask for).

This is the power of networking - connecting people with each other and creating value out of seemingly nowhere. It's one of the most powerful tools in business and one that you should take advantage of if you want to reach new heights in your career or business.

So reach out to those people you admire and respect, cultivate relationships with them, and start creating value.

This week, I'm taking meetings in Miami, Fl.
