What True Luxury Is
And why happiness isn't for sale.
Hello again, Squad.
The Really Rich Journal
brought to you by:
You make your own luck if you stay at it long enough.
The Weekly Tone
Social media sells lifestyle.
As much as we clown on the guy stepping out of a green Lambo (which I allow myself to do for a brief moment during this week's podcast, before feeling guilty), it works. It gathers more clicks and attention than Naval Ravikant's genius quips on wealth. Of course, here's the embedded lie: material wealth is the source of happiness via the piling-up of luxuries.
Also, oddly, it follows that others need to see your success for you to be successful. Of course, you can get rich quietly by building big things in the background a la the Really Rich Guy.
I believe the source of happiness is the value you create, the relationships you build, and the effort you plug into your craft.
Lambos are just side effects.
Here's a peek into what I think about luxury from my Twitter.
This week, I'm taking meetings in Miami, FL.

Rich: Work smart.
Really Rich: Work hard, then work smart, when you're smart enough to know the difference.

The Really Rich Spirit

On Balance:
Balance is key to long term success, the Really Rich know this.
They also know that to find long term success a person has to endure periods of short term imbalance.
A large portion of a person's success in life is derived from their foundation.
It’s hard to do the $10 million real estate deal in your 40s when you didn’t work your tail off in your 20’s to put yourself in the position to do the deal.
Net worth, success, and work are an exponential curve.
The older you get, the less work you have to do to earn bigger rewards.
To get to a position where you have to do relatively little work to earn monumental rewards takes time.
To find balance, a person has to understand how to handle imbalance and why they are bearing it at all.
Remember, it is always better to work smart, but a person rarely can work smart without working hard to attain the wisdom to know what "smart" looks like.
